Known for its cultural and educational institutions, including the prestigious Yale University, Explorers will enjoy libraries, museums, art galleries, cafes, and bookstores that make this quintessential college town a great spot for diverse and intellectual culture. 

Ranked in Livability.com’s Top 100 Best Places to Live in the U.S., New Haven is more affordable than larger East Coast cities such as Boston and New York while offering residents plenty of amenities.

Yale University Founded in 1701, Yale is the third-oldest institution of higher education in the U.S. The Gothic Revival campus is home to 12 colleges and several museums, galleries, bookstores, and restaurants. The university hosts several lectures and symposia featuring celebrities and experts, which visitors can attend.

Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History One of the oldest and largest university natural history museums in the U.S., Peabody has five million specimens and objects currently cataloged in its collections. Admission will be free once renovations are complete.

Lighthouse Point Park This 82-acre park along Long Island Sound has swimming, nature trails, natural history displays, a picnic grove, a bird sanctuary, and an antique carousel.

East Rock Park Formed over 200 million years ago; East Rock provides views of the Long Island Sound and the harbor, a bird sanctuary, nature trails, and picnic facilities. The park is open from dawn to dusk daily.

Little Italy  From pizza to cannoli, New Haven’s Little Italy, located in Wooster Square, is known for its authentic Italian cuisine. Frank Pepe Pizzaria, open since 1925, is credited as the first to sell coal-fired pizza by the slice.

Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library – Located at Yale, this rare book and literary archive is one of the largest buildings in the world dedicated to rare books and manuscripts.

Shubert Theater A not-for-profit arts, education, and community institution, this world-class venue hosts Broadway shows and popular performers. Opened in 1914, the Shubert has just 1600 seats providing an intimate, personal experience.

Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C.  Take Amtrack to see the Statue of Liberty or go to a Broadway show in New York City, check out the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, PA, visit the White House in Washington D.C. or take in a baseball game at Fenway Park in Boston.

Hartford The state capital is home to Bushnell Park, the oldest public park in the country. Visit the capitol grounds, the Mark Twain House & Museum, and the Connecticut Science Center.

Mystic This maritime village is home to a seaport museum, aquarium, and Olde Mistick Village, an outdoor mall resembling an 18th-century New England village.

Kent An hour and 30-minute drive from New Have is Kent. This quaint town features charming shops, cafes, and restaurants and is home to Bull’s Bridge, one of three covered bridges in the state.
