If you’re looking for job security, you’re in the right field. The healthcare workforce shortage has received wide coverage over the past year, but as some workers opt for a new career, demand only increases for nurses and allied health. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nurse practitioner is the fastest-growing occupation in the country. The number of NPs is projected to increase by 8.3 million or 46 percent from 2021 to 2031. The BLS classifies occupations by the work performed, skills required, education, training, and credentials. Nurse practitioners are No. 9 among the highest-paying medical jobs making a median of $59.94 per hour or $124,680 a year. Nurse practitioner was also ranked No. 1 by U.S. News & World Report for the 2023 Best Healthcare Jobs. Also making the Top-20 in healthcare were No. 15 medical and health services managers (28 percent), No. 17 physician assistants (28 percent), and No. 20 physical therapists (26 percent).
Medical Technologists
Medical technologists haven’t been in the spotlight like nurses since the pandemic, but they’re also expected to be in demand over the next ten years. As of 2021, there were 329,2000 MedTech positions, and the BLS is projecting a 7 percent increase or 25,600 openings annually over the next eight years. MedTechs earn a median pay of $27.79 per hour or $57,800 per year. The projected increase for all occupations is five percent.
