Do you love the country? Lazy days walking through corn fields, or walking along quiet rural roads watching cows, horses and sheep? Maybe taking a dip in a lake or catching fireflies in the summer?

Then a traveling PT opening in Onawa and Storm Lake, Iowa is the assignment for you (you’ll be splitting your time between the two communities).

Onawa is located in western Iowa just a few miles from the Nebraska border and about 40 miles south of Sioux City along Interstate 29.

The town’s official website touts it as “a progressive rural community nestled between the beautiful Loess Hills and the Missouri River along the I-29 corridor.” The site also says the community is a “rural Iowa community portraying solid family values and sound economic growth.”

In fact, the town won an “Official Best Of” designation in 2009 from the television show The Official Best in Destinations Across the Country.

Wikipedia.org reports that Onawa, which had only a bit more than 3,000 people living in it according to the 2000 Census, lays claim to the “widest main street in the United States – about 75 feet (23 m) wide.”

Onawa’s location is in the Loess Hills region of Iowa. If you love the outdoors, Lewis & Clark State Park, the Loess Hills State Forest and Preparation Canyon State Park are close by.

As for the other location for this traveling PT assignment, Storm Lake is located about two hours northeast of Onawa. Storm Lake is about three times as large as Onawa (more than 10,000 residents in 2000, according to the U.S. Census).

The website of the community’s Chamber of Commerce describes it thusly:

Perched on the banks of a 3200-acre lake, Storm Lake is one of Iowa’s richest, most diverse communities. It has positioned itself not only as one of Iowa’s premier vacation spots, but a city where business booms. Small businesses and multinational corporations thrive in this Northwest Iowa city.

The Chamber’s site waxes poetically further by letting visitors know that they may:

Rent a kayak or canoe and paddle along the peaceful shoreline of one of Iowa’s natural treasures. Or feel the wind blow your hair back as you cruise the lake on a boat – a skier or two in tow. If dry land is more your speed there’s no end to the activity there either. The true shopper can spend the day exploring the many local shops before discovering your new favorite meal in one of the area’s fine restaurants.
